Frigidaire Microwave Is Not Working After Power Outage

Step 1: Unplug the microwave.

Step 2: Take out the screws which hold the microwave front grille in place.

Step 3: Open the door of the microwave.

Step 4: Take out the screws which hold the control panel in place. There should be one behind it and another one at the side.

Step 5: Lift the control panel up and lower it down.

Step 6: Move the control panel assembly out of the way.

Step 7: Note where each wire is connected to the door switches then disconnect them.

Step 8: Take out the two screws which hold the door switch holder in place.

Step 9: Take out the door switch holder.

Step 10: To determine which door switch is faulty, you will need to press the small button on each one. Whichever one feels loose when pressed is the faulty door switch.

Step 11: Take out the faulty door switch and get a new one.

Step 12: Position the door switch back on the holder.

Step 13: Align the door switch holder on the frame and secure it with the screws.

Step 14: Reconnect the wires to the right door switches.

Step 15: Lift the control panel up and push it back into place.

Step 16: Secure the control panel with the screws.

Step 17: Return the front grille and the screws at the top.

Step 18: Close the microwave door and plug the microwave back in.

The Diode

To test and replace the diode in a Frigidaire microwave, follow the steps below…

Step 1: Unplug the microwave from the outlet.

Step 2: Open the microwave door.

Step 3: Take out the glass tray and support.

Step 4: Close the microwave door.

Step 5: Open the cabinet door and take out the bolts which secure the microwave to it. Get someone else to support the microwave while you do this.

Step 6: Carefully tilt the microwave forward and pull the power cord through the hole in the cabinet.

Step 7: Lift the microwave up and place it on a sturdy surface lined with a cloth.

Step 8: Rest the microwave on its back.

Step 9: Take out all the screws which secure the bottom panel of the microwave.

Step 10: Disconnect the wire connector connected to the bottom panel and set the panel aside.

Step 11: Turn the microwave back up.

Step 12: Use a plank or something thick to prop of the front of the microwave.

Step 13: Take out the screws at the top of the microwave front grille.

Step 14: Open the microwave door and take out the front grille.

Step 15: Take out the screws which hold the blower cover in place.

Step 16: Remove the blower cover.

Step 17: Take out the screws at the top, sides and back of the microwave which secure its cover.

Step 19: Discharge the capacitor. Do this by placing a screwdriver or a pair of pliers across the terminals of the capacitor simultaneously.

Step 20: Take out the screw which holds the diode to the frame.

Step 21: Using a pair of pliers, disconnect the diode from the capacitor.

Step 23: Connect the new diode to the capacitor.

Step 24: Screw the diode to the frame.

Step 25: Reposition the microwave cover and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 26: Return the blower cover and the screws which secure it.

Step 27: Before returning the front grille, ensure that the charcoal filter is properly aligned.

Step 28: Return the front grille and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 29: Rest the microwave on its back once again.

Step 30: Reconnect the wire connector to the bottom panel.

Step 31: Screw the bottom panel in place.

Step 32: Sit the microwave back on the mounting plate.

Step 33: Pass the power cord through the hole in the cabinet.

Step 34: Secure the microwave to the cabinet with the bolts.

Step 1: Unplug the microwave.

Step 6: Bend the microwave towards you a bit.

Step 13: Take out the screws at the top of the front vent.

Step 14: Open the microwave door and remove the front vent.

Step 15: Take out the three screws which secure the blower cover.

Step 16: Remove the blower cover.

Step 17: Take out all the screws at the top, back and sides which hold the microwave cover in place.

Step 18: Lift the microwave cover up and take it out.

Step 19: Discharge the capacitor by placing a pair of pliers with an insulated handle across the capacitor terminals.

Step 20: Note where each wire goes on the capacitor then disconnect them.

Step 21: Also disconnect the diode.

Step 22: Take out the screws securing the capacitor.

Step 24: Transfer the mounting bracket from the old capacitor to the new one.

Step 25: Screw the new capacitor to the frame.

Step 26: Reconnect the wires and the diode to the capacitor.

Step 27: Reposition the microwave cover and secure with all the screws.

Step 28: Return the blower cover and the three screws used to secure them.

Step 29: Return the front grille and secure it at the top with the screws.

Step 30: Lay the microwave on the back.

Step 31: Return the bottom panel and reconnect the wire connector.

Step 15: Discharge the high voltage capacitor by placing a pair of pliers with insulated handles on the terminals of the capacitor simultaneously.

Step 16: Take out the screw which secures the thermostat to the magnetron.

Step 17: Note where each wire is connected to on the capacitor and disconnect them.

Step 18: Take out the screws which hold the capacitor to the frame.

Step 19: Unplug the magnetron wire connector.

Step 20: Take out the screw so that you can bend the air diverter flap back.

Step 21: Tighten the screw again to hold the flap in that position.

Step 22: Take out the screws holding the magnetron in place.

Step 23: Remove the magnetron.

Step 25: Align the magnetron and screw it into place.

Step 26: Loosen the screw to bend the air diverter flap back to its normal position.

Step 27: Tighten the screw.

Step 28: Reconnect the magnetron wire connector.

Step 29: Return the capacitor and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 30: Reconnect all the wires to the capacitor.

Step 31: Screw the thermostat back to the magnetron.

Step 32: Reposition the microwave cover and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 33: Return the blower cover and secure with the three screws.

Step 34: Return the front grille and the screws at the top.

Step 35: Rest the microwave on its back.

Step 36: Reconnect the wire connector to the bottom panel.
