If your Frigidaire oven is a gas one and it preheats then shuts off, the igniter should be replaced. Below, we walk you through the steps you need to follow in order to replace your Frigidaire oven igniter…

Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall.

Step 2: Switch off your oven’s circuit breaker or unplug the oven’s power cord.

Step 3: Pull the oven’s bottom drawer forward.

Step 4: Lift the drawer up a bit then remove it.

Step 5: Set the drawer aside.

Step 6: To make it easier to access the igniter, the door should be uninstalled. Using a flat blade screwdriver, push the lock on each door hinge downwards.

Step 7: Close the door till you feel the locks engage.

Step 8: Lift the door off and take out the racks in the oven.

Step 9: Using the same screwdriver, take out the two screws which hold the oven interior’s bottom panel in place.

Step 10: Take the panel out of the oven.

Step 11: Take out the nut which holds the burner shield using a 3/8th inch nut driver.

Step 12: Set the burner shield aside.

Step 13: On the left side, you will see the igniter wire cover. Using a quarter inch nut driver, remove the screw which holds the cover in place.

Step 14: Disconnect the igniter wire plug.

Step 15: Disconnect the igniter wires connected to the safety valve.

Step 16: Take out the two screws which hold the igniter to the right side of the burner.

Step 17: Get a new igniter.

Step 18: Screw the new igniter to the burner tube.

Step 19: Connect the wires to the safety valve.

Step 20: Reconnect the igniter wire plug.

Step 21: Secure the igniter wire cover with the quarter inch screw.

Step 22: Reposition the burner shield.

Step 23: Hold the shield in place with the nut.

Step 24: Also reposition the oven’s bottom panel.

Step 25: Secure the panel using the screws.

Step 26: Return the racks to the oven.

Step 27: Lift the oven door.

Step 28: Insert the hinges back into the slots on the sides of the oven.

Step 29: Open the oven door completely and push the locks back.

Step 30: Shut the door.

Step 31: Position the bottom drawer back on the rails.

Step 32: Push the drawer back in.

Step 33: Plug the oven back in or switch the circuit breaker on.

Frigidaire Oven Smells Like Gas When Preheating — How To Fix

There are three possible reasons why your Frigidaire oven will smell like gas while preheating. Below, we have listed them and what you should do about them.

1. Igniter

If the igniter in an oven fails, it will glow but not ignite the gas sent to it. If you would like to replace the igniter in your Frigidaire oven, read this article.

2. Pressure Regulator

To replace the pressure regulator in a Frigidaire oven, follow the steps listed below…

Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall and unplug the power cord.

Step 2: Turn off the oven’s gas supply.

Step 3: Using a pair of channel lock pliers and an adjustable wrench, take out the nut which holds the gas supply line to the regulator.

Step 4: Also remove the fitting from the regulator using the channel lock pliers and wrench.

Step 5: Using the channel lock pliers and a 9/1th inch wrench, take out the nut which holds the gas supply tube to the regulator.

Step 6: Using the same channel lock pliers and an adjustable wrench, take out the nut which secures the other gas tube to the regulator.

Step 7: Take out the two screws which hold the pressure regulator and mounting bracket to the oven using a quarter inch nut driver.

Step 8: Take out the two quarter inch screws which hold the mounting plate to the pressure regulator.

Step 9: Get a new pressure regulator. If your oven uses liquid propane, reverse the regulator cap.

Step 10: Position the mounting plate on the regulator.

Step 11: Secure the plate to the regulator with the two screws.

Step 12: Position the regulator and plate on the oven.

Step 13: Hold them in place with the screws.

Step 14: Secure the gas supply tube to the pressure regulator with the nut.

Step 15: Also use the nut to secure the other gas tube to the pressure regulator.

Step 16: Make sure not to overtighten the nut.

Step 17: Apply sealant to the threads of the pressure regulator fitting.

Step 18: Screw the fitting back to the regulator.

Step 19: Secure the gas line to the regulator with the nut.

Step 20: Switch the new pressure regulator on.

Step 21: Turn the gas supply on.

Step 22: Apply a non corrosive leak detection solution on all the connections to the pressure regulator. If there is a leak, the solution will bubble.

Step 23: Tighten all the connections.

Step 24: Plug the oven back in.

3. Gas Leak
