Step 5: Leave the racks for 8 hours or overnight.
Step 6: Afterwards, take them out. Make sure to put gloves on before taking them out.

This method is as effective as using ammonia. However, if you are sensitive to chemicals, do not use this method as oven cleaners smell strongly of chemicals. To clean your oven racks with an oven cleaner, follow the steps listed below…
Step 1: Take out the racks from the oven.
Step 2: Line a tray with some clingfilm. Make sure the clingfilm is large enough to wrap the racks.
Step 3: Spray some oven cleaner on the clingfilm.
Step 4: Place the racks on the lined tray.
Step 5: Spray some more oven cleaner over the racks.
Step 6: Wrap the racks with the cling film.
Step 7: Place the racks in a plastic bag.
Step 8: Leave the racks for about four hours. If your racks are very dirty, leave them overnight.
Step 9: Unwrap the racks.
Step 10: Wipe off the dirt from the racks.
Step 11: Place the racks in a bowl of warm soapy water and scrub. This is to get rid of any oven cleaner residue.
Step 12: Rinse the racks and leave them to dry.
