GE Microwave Light [How To/Issues & Solutions]

Is your GE microwave light not working, or are you experiencing some other microwave light related issues? If you are, keep reading. Today we are going to show you how to fix some GE microwave light issues.

How to Replace GE Microwave Light Bulb

To replace a GE microwave light bulb, do the following…

Step 1: Turn the microwave off and unplug it from the outlet.

Step 2: Open the door of the microwave.

Step 3: Take out the screws at the top of the front grille.

Step 4: Slide the grille to the left side then take it out.

Step 5: Use a pair of pliers to take out the light bulb cover in the opening of the microwave.

Step 6: Unscrew the light bulb.

Step 7: Get a new light bulb and screw it into the socket.

Step 8: Return the cover and align it.

Step 9: Position the grille and slide it to the right.

Step 10: Hold the grille in place with the screws at the top.

Step 11: Close the microwave door and plug it back in.

GE Microwave Light On But Not Working

If your GE microwave light is on but the microwave doesn’t heat, it is most likely because of a faulty door switch. To replace the door switch in a GE microwave, do the following…

Step 1: Unplug the microwave from the outlet.

Step 2: Open the door of the microwave.

Step 3: Take out the screws at the top of the microwave which hold its front grille in place.

Step 4: Slide the microwave grille to the left side then take it out.

Step 5: Take out the screw right next to the control panel and loosen the other one behind it.

Step 6: Lift the control panel up then lower it down.

Step 7: Take out the screws to gain access to the door switch holder.

Step 8: To know which door switch is the faulty one, press the small button at the top of each one. If there is a strong click, that particular door switch is still good. But, if the button feels loose, it is the faulty one.

Step 9: Take out the faulty switch from the holder.

Step 10: Disconnect the wire harness connected to the faulty switch.

Step 11: Get a new switch and connect the harness to it.

Step 12: Reposition the new door switch in the holder and snap it into place.

Step 13: Align the door switch holder on the frame and hold it in place with the screws you took out earlier on.

Step 14: Position the control panel on the microwave then push it down.

Step 15: Tighten the screw behind the control panel and return the other one at the side.

Step 16: Realign the front grille and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 17: Close the door and plug the microwave back in.

GE Microwave Light Won’t Turn Off

If your GE microwave light won’t turn off, unplug it and leave for 5 minutes. This will reset the power to the microwave. After 5 minutes plug the microwave back in.

GE Microwave Display Light Dim

If your microwave display light is dim, you might need to replace the microwave. However, you should think about this before you go about it. A control panel can be quite expensive, so, if your microwave is old, it might be best to replace it. To replace the control panel in a GE microwave, do the following…

Step 1: Turn off and unplug the microwave.

Step 2: Take out the screws that hold the microwave front grille in place.

Step 3: Open the door of the microwave.

Step 4: Slide the front grille to the left then take it out.

Step 5: Take out the screw right beside the control panel. If your microwave model has a screw behind the control panel, loosen it.

Step 6: Lift the control panel up and lower it down.

Step 7: Note where each wire goes on the control board. Take a picture to help you remember.

Step 8: Disconnect the wires connected to the control board.

Step 9: Take out the screw securing the grounding wire to the panel.

Step 10: Disconnect the ribbon connector.

Step 11: Take out the screws which secure the control board to the panel.

Step 12: Lift the board out.

Step 13: Get a new control board and place it in the housing.

Step 14: Hold it in place with the screws.

Step 15: Reconnect the ribbon connector.

Step 16: Screw the grounding wire back and reconnect all the wires to the right places on the control board.

Step 17: Push the control panel in and return the screw beside it. Also tighten the one behind it if there is one.

Step 18: Reposition the front grille and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 19: Close the microwave door and plug it back in.
