GE Microwave Won’t Turn On/Off [Solutions]

GE Microwave Won’t Turn Off When Door Is Closed

If your GE microwave won’t turn off when the door is closed, one of the door switches is probably faulty. To replace the door switch in a GE microwave, do the following…

Step 1: Turn the microwave off and unplug it from the outlet.

Step 2: Take out the screws at the top of the microwave front grille.

Step 3: Open the door of the microwave.

Step 4: Slide the front grille to the left side then take it out.

Step 5: Take out the screw that is right next to the control panel.

Step 6: Also take out the other one behind it.

Step 7: Lift the control panel up to detach it from the microwave.

Step 8: Take out the two screws which hold the door switch holder to the microwave.

Step 9: Detach the upper door switch from the holder.

Step 10: Press the button on the door switch to determine if it is faulty. If the button feels loose, the door switch is faulty. If not, return the door switch.

Step 11: Do this same test with the other door switches to find out which one is faulty.

Step 12: Get a new door switch.

Step 13: Disconnect the wire connectors from the faulty door switch.

Step 14: Connect the wires to the new door switch.

Step 15: Return the door switch to the holder.

Step 16: Push the control panel back in and hold it in place with the two screws.

Step 17: Return the front grille and the screws at the top.

Step 18: Close the microwave door and plug it back in.

GE Microwave Won’t Turn On

If your GE microwave won’t turn on, the line fuse may be bad. To test and replace the line fuse in a GE microwave, do the following…

Step 1: Unplug the microwave from the outlet.

Step 2: Take out the screws at the top of the front vent.

Step 3: Open the microwave door and take out the vent.

Step 4: Take out the screw at the left side of the control panel. Also take out the other one behind it.

Step 5: Lift the control panel up then lower it down.

Step 6: Take out the screw securing the inner access panel.

Step 7: Remove the inner access panel.

Step 8: Before going on with the repair, discharge the capacitor. Place a pair of pliers on the terminals of the capacitor simultaneously to discharge.

Step 9: Remove the line fuse from the holder.

Step 10: Using a multimeter, test the line fuse for continuity. If there is no continuity, you will need to get a new line fuse. Click here to know how to test a line fuse for continuity.

Step 11: Place the new fuse in the bracket.

Step 12: Return the inner access panel and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 13: Push the control panel back in and return the screw behind it and the other one at the side.

Step 14: Return the microwave front vent and the screws at the top.

Step 15: Close the microwave door and plug it back in.

GE Microwave Timer Won’t Turn Off

To turn the microwave timer off, press or hold down the Clear or Timer button.
