GE Oven Thermostat [Problems Solved]

Your GE oven thermostat is what monitors the temperature of your oven and sends heat to it. If the thermostat in your GE oven is faulty, the oven won’t heat. So, today, we will show you how to replace the thermostat in a GE oven.

GE Oven Thermostat Location

The thermostat rod in your GE oven is located on the upper back wall of the oven interior. The rod sits on two clips. The main thermostat is usually connected to a switch behind the control panel of the oven.

GE Oven Thermostat Not Working — How To Fix

If the thermostat in your GE oven is not working, you will need to replace it. Follow the steps below to replace a GE oven thermostat…

Step 1: Unplug the oven and shut off the gas supply.

Step 2: Lift off the stove grates.

Step 3: Lift the burner caps off.

Step 4: Also lift off the surface burners.

Step 5: Take out the twelve screws which are now visible on the stovetop.

Step 6: Using a putty knife, pry off the stovetop igniters and disconnect the wires connected to them.

Step 7: Using the same putty knife pry off each side of the stovetop.

Step 8: Lift the stovetop off and set it aside.

Step 9: Pull out the oven control knobs.

Step 10: Now take out the four screws on the front control panel where you took off the knobs..

Step 11: Open the oven door slightly.

Step 12: Grip each side of the door and lift it out.

Step 13: Remove all the racks in the oven.

Step 14: Lift the thermostat rod off the clips. The thermostat will be on the back wall of the oven.

Step 15: Push the thermostat rod through the hole in the back wall of the oven.

Step 16: Go to the back of the oven and pull out the rod.

Step 17: Go to the front of the oven and pull out the rod of the thermostat.

Step 18: Take out the three screws underneath the oven’s front panel using a screwdriver.

Step 19: Lift the front panel and lower it down.

Step 20: Now take out the two screws which secure the thermostat.

Step 21: Take a picture of the thermostat to know where each wire goes.

Step 22: Disconnect the wires connected to the thermostat.

Step 23: Remove the thermostat completely and get a new one.

Step 24: Position the new thermostat and screw it into place.

Step 25: Pass the thermostat rod under the burner tubes and into the back of the oven.

Step 26: Go to the oven interior and sit the thermostat rod back on its clips.

Step 27: Reconnect the wires to the thermostat.

Step 28: Lift the oven control panel up and push it back into place.

Step 29: Return the three screws underneath the control panel which secure it.

Step 30: Slide the racks back into the oven.

Step 31: Reposition the oven door on the hinges and close it.

Step 32: Return the four screws at the front of the oven panel.

Step 33: Push the control knobs back into place.

Step 34: Reposition the stovetop.

Step 35: Push down the stovetop.

Step 36: Reconnect the wires to all the igniters and push them back in.

Step 37: Return the twelve screws.

Step 38: Return the burner covers and grates.

Step 39: Plug the oven back in.

Step 40: Turn on the oven’s gas supply.
