Hotpoint Oven Fan Not Working — How To Fix

There are two fans in a fan oven. The cooling fan and convection fan. If either of the two stop working, they should be replaced. First, we will show you how to replace the convection fan motor.

1. Convection Fan Motor

Below are the steps you need to follow to replace the convection fan motor in your Hotpoint oven…

Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall and unplug the power cord.

Step 2: Take out the screws which hold the lower rear panel of the oven in place.

Step 3: Lift off the panel and set it aside.

Step 4: Open the oven door and slide out all the racks.

Step 5: Flip the locks on the door hinges forward.

Step 6: Close the door till it can’t go any further.

Step 7: Lift the door off and set it aside.

Step 8: Take out the screws on the oven’s back wall which hold the fan blade cover in place.

Step 9: Remove the fan blade cover from the oven.

Step 10: Take out the nut in the center of the fan blade by turning it clockwise using a nut driver.

Step 11: Remove the fan blade.

Step 12: You should see three or four screws on the back wall where you removed the fan blade. Take them out. If you don’t see screws, the screws which hold the fan motor are probably behind the oven.

Step 13: Go to the rear of the oven and disconnect the wires from it.

Step 14: Pull out the convection motor and get a new one.

Step 15: Position the new convection fan motor in the oven and return the screws at the rear or back wall of the oven interior which hold it in place.

Step 16: Connect the wires back to the fan motor.

Step 17: Reposition the back panel of the oven and secure with the screws.

Step 18: Go to the oven interior and slide the fan blade back on the motor shaft.

Step 19: Hold the fan blade in place with the nut.

Step 20: Return the fan cover and the screws which hold it in place.

Step 21: Return the racks to the oven.

Step 22: Position the hinges on the door back into the slots in the oven.

Step 23: Lower the door and flip the locks back.

Step 24: Close the door of the oven.

Step 25: Plug the oven’s power cord back in.

Step 26: Push the oven back to the wall.

2. The Cooling Fan

If the cooling fan in your Hotpoint oven is not working, follow the steps below to replace it…

Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall.

Step 2: Take out the two screws on the upper back of the oven which hold the stove top. Do not remove the other four screws above the two screws.

Step 3: Pull out the oven control knobs.  Make sure to take a picture before doing this to remember where each knob goes.

Step 4: Open the door of the oven.

Step 5: Take out the screws under the oven’s front panel.

Step 6: Push the front panel to the left and lower it.

Step 7: Remove the other screws which hold the stove top in place. The screws are under the front lip of the stove top.

Step 8: Lift the stove top.

Step 9: Disconnect the wire plugs connected to the stove top and note where each one goes.

Step 10: Set the stove top on a cloth line surface.

Step 11: Disconnect the wires connected to the cooling fan. The cooling fan is close to the rear of the oven.

Step 12: Take out the screws which hold the cooling fan. There should be three screws.

Step 13: Carefully pull out the cooling fan and get a replacement.

Step 14: Position the fan in the oven.

Step 15: Secure the fan using the three screws.

Step 16: Connect the wires to the fan.

Step 17: Take the stove top back to the oven and reconnect the wire plugs.

Step 18: Lower the stove top and return the screws under it which hold it in place.

Step 19: Reposition the front panel on the oven.

Step 20: Return the screws under the front panel which hold it in place.

Step 21: Close the door of the oven.

Step 22: Return the other two screws on the upper back of the oven which secure the stove top.

Step 23: Plug the oven back in.

Step 24: Push the oven back to the wall.

Hotpoint Oven Fan And Element Not Working — Solution

If your Hotpoint oven fan and element aren’t working, the control board should be replaced. Follow these steps to replace the control board in a Hotpoint oven…

Step 1: If your oven is close to the wall, pull it away and disconnect the power cord.

Step 2: Remove the screws holding the upper back panel of the oven.

Step 3: Remove the panel.

Step 4: Take out the screws which secure the control board to the oven.

Step 5: Take a picture of the control board then disconnect all the wires.

Step 6: Peel off the touchpad from the control board.

Step 7: Get the replacement board and stick the touchpad to it. Make sure each side is properly aligned.

Step 8: Connect the wires to the right places on the control board.

Step 9: Hold the control board to the oven with the screws.

Step 10: Return the back panel.

Step 11: Hold the back panel in place with the screws.

Step 12: Plug the oven back into the outlet.

Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall and unplug the power cord. You could also switch off the circuit breaker.

Step 2: Open the oven door and take out the racks in the oven.

Step 3: To make it easier to access the element, the door should be uninstalled. Flip the locks on thee door hinges forward.

Step 4: Close the door till it stops.

Step 5: Lift the door up, tilt it in, and remove it.

Step 6: Set the door assembly on a cloth lined surface so it doesn’t get damaged.

Step 7: Unscrew the light cover and bulb and set them aside.

Step 8: Unclip the thermostat rod from the oven’s back wall as well.

Step 9: Remove the screws holding the fan blade cover on the oven’s back wall.

Step 10: Set the cover aside.

Step 11: The heating element is around the fan blade, take out the two screws which hold it in place.

Step 12: Go to the oven’s rear and remove the screws which secure the back panel.

Step 13: Disconnect the wires connected to the element.

Step 14: Take out the two screws which secure the element and take it out of the oven

Step 15: Get a new element and position it in the oven.

Step 16: Hold the element in place with the two screws.

Step 17: Reconnect the two wires to the element.

Step 18: Return the oven’s rear panel and the screws which hold it in place.

Step 19: Reposition the fan cover and secure with the screws.

Step 20: Slide the racks back into the oven.

Step 21: Take the door back to the oven.

Step 22: Position the door hinges in the slots on the sides of the oven.

Step 23: Open the door fully and flip the locks back.

Step 24: Close the oven door and plug the power cord back in or switch the circuit breaker on.

Step 1: Disconnect the power to the oven by switching off the circuit breaker.

Step 2: Open the door of the oven.

Step 3: Slide out the racks in the oven.

Step 4: Take out the screws at the top of the oven which hold the panel in place.

Step 5: Lift off the top panel of the oven and set it aside.

Step 6: The thermostat is behind the oven’s control panel. Note where each wire goes on the thermostat then disconnect them.

Step 7: Push back on the clips which hold the thermostat in place to remove it.

Step 8: Pull out the thermostat.

Step 9: Go to the oven interior and unclip the thermostat rod from the back wall.

Step 10: Pull out the thermostat rod from the oven.

Step 11: Remove the thermostat and get a new one.

Step 12: Insert the thermostat rod through the hole in the oven.

Step 13: Clip the the thermostat rod back on mounting pins.

Step 14: Push the thermostat into the selector switch.

Step 15: Connect the wires to the thermostat.

Step 16: Reposition the top panel of the oven and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 17: Slide the racks back into the oven.

Step 18: Close the oven door and switch the circuit breaker back on.

To use the self clean feature in a Hotpoint oven, follow these steps…

Step 1: Open the oven door and remove the racks.

Step 2: Take out any other accessories in the oven.

Step 3: If there are any loose bits of food, wipe them out of the oven.

Step 4: Close the door and turn on the oven.

Step 5: Press the “Self Clean” button.

Step 6: Select how long you want the oven to run using the arrows or number pad. You can choose from 3-5 hours.

Step 7: Press the “Start” button. During the self clean cycle, there will be some smoke from the oven. It’s also normal to hear the sound of metal contracting.

Step 8: Once the self clean cycle is over, turn off the oven and wait for it to cool down.

1. The Natural Method

For this method, you will need some baking soda, vinegar, and dishwashing detergent. Follow these steps to clean your Hotpoint oven naturally…

Step 1: Open the oven door and take out the racks.

Step 2: Place the racks in a bath tub lined with a towel. This is to prevent the racks from scratching the tub.

Step 3: Submerge the racks in hot water.

Step 4: Dissolve a cup of detergent in hot water and pour over the racks.

Step 5: Sprinkle some more detergent on the racks and leave them in the water for 8 hours.

Step 6: Mix some baking soda and vinegar in a bowl to form a paste.

Step 7: Apply the paste on the oven walls and door.

Step 8: Close the door and let the paste sit for at least an hour.

Step 9: Pour some vinegar in a spray bottle.

Step 10: After an hour, open the oven door and spray the vinegar on the paste.

Step 11: Get a sponge and scrub off the dirt in the oven.

Step 12: Wipe the oven with paper towels.

Step 13: Spray some water in the oven and on the door to rinse.

Step 14: Wipe the oven with a damp cloth.

Step 15: After 8 hours, take out the racks and scrub with a sponge and toothbrush.

Step 16: Rinse the racks with some water.

Step 17: Leave the racks to dry.

Step 18: Once the racks are dry, return them to the oven.

2. Chemical Method

If you are sensitive to chemicals, it would be best not to use this method. To clean your Hotpoint fan oven using this method, follow the steps listed below…

Step 1: Turn off your oven.

Step 2: Open the oven door and take out the racks.

Step 3: Place the racks in a large plastic bag.

Step 4: Pour some ammonia in the bag and tie it up. Make sure not to tie the bag too tightly.

Step 5: Leave the racks in the ammonia for a few hours.

Step 6: Afterwards, remove the racks and scrub.

Step 7: Place the racks in warm soapy water to get rid of any ammonia residue.

Step 8: Rinse the racks and leave them to dry.

Step 9: Go to the oven and spray the cleaner all over the interior. Make sure to put on some gloves and keep your face far away while you spray.

Step 10: Leave to sit for an hour.

Step 11: After an hour, scrub the oven with a soft sponge.

Step 12: Mix 1/4 cup vinegar with 2/3 cup water.
