The self clean feature is very effective in removing heavy food soils and grease buildup. However, even though the self clean feature gets rid off heavy baked on dirt, there are also cons. The first con is that the cycle takes anywhere from 2 – 5 hours to complete.
Also, during the process, the oven gets so hot anyone that touches it will get burned. The oven also emits dangerous fume which can kill pets and can be a bit harmful to humans. Since the oven gets very hot, the thermal fuse burns out sometimes because of this. Additionally, if there are any existing cracks on your oven door, the excessive heat could cause it to shatter.
The Steam Clean Feature
While the steam clean feature is much more friendly and only takes 20 minutes, it isn’t really effective. Sure, it can loosen up very light soils, but it won’t actually do anything if your oven is very dirty. The oven works by loosening up food bits using steam.
