Before carrying out this installation, read the article and watch the video first to know if it isn’t too complicated for you. To install an Amana microwave hood combination, do the following…
Step 1: Look at the microwave manual to determine what tools will be needed during the installation.
Step 2: To ensure that you install the microwave properly, make sure that there is at least 30 inches of space between the side cabinets. There should also be at least 12 inches gap from the wall to the front of the cabinet. The electrical supply required for the microwave is 120v at 60Hz. The outlet for the microwave has to be located in the upper cabinet.
Step 3: For roof or wall venting, you need to rotate the blower motor. Using a screwdriver, take out the screws which secure the damper plate to the top of the microwave.
Step 4: Slide the damper plate forward to take it out.
Step 5: Take out the two screws which secure the blower to the back of the microwave.
Step 6: Lift the blower motor and turn it so that the vents point up for roof venting. Or, position the vents to the back for wall venting
Step 7: For wall venting, you will need to use pliers to snip off the vent covers at the back of the microwave. For roof venting, snip of the vent covers on the damper plate.
Step 8: Screw the blower motor back with the two screws you removed earlier on.
Step 9: Reinsert the damper plate and hold in place with the screws.
Step 10: For wall venting, install the damper assembly to the back of the microwave. For roof venting, you need to mount the microwave first before installing it.
Step 11: The microwave oven has to be installed on at least one wall stud even though two is a better option. Determine the location for the stud or studs within the opening of the cabinet.
Step 12: Refer to the diagrams in your microwave manual to know how to install the mounting plate.
Step 13: Use a measuring tape to figure out where the center of the cabinet opening is, then mark it.
Step 14: Align the center line on the template with the one on the wall. Make sure that the template is level on the bottom edge of the cabinet.
Step 15: Use a piece of tape to secure the wall template to the wall.
Step 16: Mark the holes on the two corners on the template then remove the template.
Step 17: Align the mounting plate on the wall using the markings.
Step 18: Mark the hole or holes that align with the wall studs.
Step 19: Drill the holes.
Step 20: Insert the bolts through the holes at the two ends of the mounting plate then thread the toggle nuts to them.
Step 21: Align the plate on the wall and use the bolts and toggle nuts to secure it to the wall.
Step 22: The quarter-inch screws are to be used for the hole or holes drilled into the wall studs.
Step 23: Make sure the plate is leveled before tightening the screws and bolts.
Step 24: Turn off the power supply to the outlet for the microwave.
Step 25: Place the template for the upper cabinet below the cabinet.
Step 26: Ensure that the line on the wall and the line on the template are aligned.
Step 27: Use tape or thumbtacks in order to secure the template to the bottom cabinet.
Step 28: Drill a 1 ½ inch hole through the bottom of the cabinet as indicated by the template.
Step 29: Drill the two holes indicated at points D and E on the template.
Step 30: After drilling the holes, remove the template from the cabinet.
Step 31: Slide a washer over each mounting bolt then place them near the holes.
Step 32: Use some tape to keep the microwave door shut tightly.
Step 33: Have someone else lift the microwave with you and align them on the support tabs of the mounting plate.
Step 34: Pass the microwave power cord through the 1 ½ inch hole in the cabinet.
Step 35: Have your assistant hold the microwave in place as you thread the bolts through the holes in the cabinet.
Step 36: Tighten the bolts but don’t over tighten them.
Step 37: Install the filters underneath the microwave.
Step 38: Place the glass tray and support in the microwave.
