To turn on your Hotpoint electric oven, follow the steps listed below…

Step 1: Plug the oven in.

Step 2: Select your desired cooking mode by pressing the “Bake” or ‘’Broil” button. If your oven doesn’t have a touchpad, turn the control knob to select your desired cooking mode.

Step 3: Set the temperature with the numbers, arrows, or “+” and “-” buttons.

Step 4: Press the “Start” button.

Step 1: Turn the oven control knob to select top and bottom heat.

If your Hotpoint stove is a gas one and it won’t turn on, the igniter is most likely faulty. If your Hotpoint stove is an electric one, the coil or element is faulty. Below we show you how to replace each of these components.

1. Igniter

To replace the igniter of your Hotpoint stove, follow the steps listed below…

Step 1: Unplug the oven’s power cord and shut off the gas supply.

Step 2: Remove the grate of the faulty burner.

Step 3: Lift the burner cap off and set it aside.

Step 4: Remove the burner base as well.

Step 5: Using a putty knife, carefully pry the igniter up.

Step 6: Pull the igniter through.

Step 7: Disconnect the wire from the igniter using a pair of needle nose pliers. Make sure the wire doesn’t fall through the hole.

Step 8: Remove the igniter.

Step 9: Get a new igniter.

Step 10: Connect the wire to the new igniter.

Step 11: Push the new igniter in.

Step 12: Return the burner base.

Step 13: Place the cap back on the burner base.

Step 15: Plug the oven back in and turn on the gas supply.

2. Element Coil

Below are the steps you need to follow in order to replace the element coil of your Hotpoint stove…

Step 1: Unplug the oven’s power cord.

Step 2: Lift the faulty coil up a bit.

Step 3: Pull the coil towards yourself to disconnect it from the receptacle.

Step 4: Get a new element coil.

Step 5: Make sure the hole in the side of the drip pan is aligned with the receptacle.

Step 6: Push the terminals of the new coil into the receptacle and lower it down.

Step 7: Make sure the metal tab on the coil is aligned in the slot.

Step 8: Plug the oven back in.

3. Radiant Element

Below are the steps you need to follow in order to replace the radiant element of your Hotpoint stove…

Step 1: Unplug the oven’s power cord from the outlet.

Step 2: Open the door of the oven.

Step 3: Take out the screws under the stove top. There should be two screws.

Step 4: Lift the stove top carefully making sure not to bend any of the wires.

Step 5: Disconnect the wire harnesses connected to the stove top making sure to note where each one goes.

Step 6: Lift the stove top and set it on a cloth lined surface with the front side down.

Step 7: Disconnect the wires from the faulty element making sure to note where each one goes.

Step 8: Take out the screws which secure the element.

Step 9: Lift the element off and get a new one.

Step 10: Clean the surface you removed the previous element from.

Step 11: Position the new element and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 12: Reconnect the wires to the element. Make sure each one goes to the right place.

Step 13: Lift the stove top and return it to the oven.

Step 14: Reconnect the wire harnesses to the stove top.

Step 15: Return the two screws under the stove top which hold it in place.

Step 16: Shut the oven door.

Step 17: Plug the oven’s power cord back into the outlet.

Hotpoint Oven Turns On By Itself — How To Fix

If your Hotpoint oven turns on by itself, there are two possible reasons. Below we have listed them and how to fix them.

1. Control Board

This is the first possible reason your Hotpoint oven turns on by itself. Below are the steps for you to follow in order to replace the control board in a Hotpoint oven…

Step 1: To avoid the risk of electrocution, unplug the oven’s power cord or switch the circuit breaker off.

Step 2: Go to the front of the oven and take out the screws underneath the control panel. There will be one screw on each side.

Step 3: Go to the oven’s rear and take out the screw on each top corner which secures the control panel.

Step 4: Pull the control panel and lift it up.

Step 5: Take a picture of the control board to note where each wire goes.

Step 6: Disconnect the wires from the control board.

Step 7: Take out the screws which hold the control board to the panel.

Step 8: Remove the control board.

Step 9: Get a new control control board.

Step 10: Peel the touchpad off the old control board and stick it on the new one.

Step 11: Position the control board on the panel.

Step 12: Hold the control board in place with the screws.

Step 13: Connect the wires to the control board ensuring that each one goes to the right place.

Step 14: Reposition the control panel assembly on the oven.

Step 15: Return the screws on the upper back corners of the oven.

Step 16: Return the other screws under the control panel.

Step 17: Plug the oven back in or switch the breaker on.

2. Thermostat

To replace your Hotpoint oven thermostat, do the following…

Step 1: Switch your circuit breaker off.

Step 2: Pull the oven away from the wall.

Step 3: Take out the two screws on the upper rear of the oven which hold the hob on.

Step 4: Open the oven door.

Step 5: Remove the oven racks and set them aside.

Step 6: On the back wall of the oven you will see the thermostat rod sitting on clips. Lift it off the clips.

Step 7: Pull off the control knobs on the oven’s front panel. Make sure to take a picture before doing this to remember where each one goes.

Step 8: Remove the screws which hold the front panel in place. There will be one screw on each side underneath the panel.

Step 9: Push the panel to the left.

Step 10: Disconnect the two wires connected to the panel.

Step 11: Set the panel aside and take out the two screws under the hob which secure it.

Step 12: Lift the hob making sure not to bend any of the wires connected to it.

Step 13: Make a note of where each wire plug connects to on the hob then disconnect them.

Step 14: Set the panel aside on a cloth lined surface.

Step 15: Pull the thermostat away from the selector switch behind the front of the oven.

Step 16: Make a note of where each wire goes on the thermostat.

Step 17: Disconnect the wires from the thermostat.

Step 18: Go to the oven’s rear and take out the screws which hold the panel.

Step 19: Remove the back panel.

Step 20: Pull the thermostat rod out through the hole in the oven’s rear.

Step 21: Unhook the thermostat wire from the clips at the top of the oven.

Step 22: Remove the old thermostat and get a replacement.

Step 23: Hook the wire on the clips and pass it through the hole in the oven’s rear.

Step 24: Reposition the oven’s back panel and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 25: Connect the wires to the right places on the thermostat.

Step 26: Push the thermostat onto the selector switch.

Step 27: Take the hob back to the oven and reconnect the wires.

Step 28: Lower the hob and return the screws which hold the front in place.

Step 29: Take the front panel back to the oven and reconnect the wires.

Step 30: Return the two screws which hold it in place.

Step 31: Sit the thermostat rod back on the clips.

Step 32: Return the oven racks.

Step 33: Shut the oven door.

Step 34: Return the two screws at the back of the hob which secure it.

Step 35: Push the oven back to the wall.

Step 36: Switch your circuit breaker back on.

If your Hotpoint oven still turns on by itself, call a technician to identify the problem.
