Gas Jenn-Air Oven Broiler Not Working — Causes And Solutions

Below, we have listed the possible reasons why your gas Jenn-Air oven broiler is not working and what to do about them.

1. Igniter

In Jenn-Air gas ovens, the igniter is used to heat during the broiling process. If the igniter fails, the broiler won’t work. Below, we show you how to replace your Jenn-Air oven broiler igniter…

Step 1: First, disconnect the power to the oven by unplugging the power cord from the outlet.

Step 2: Also shut off the gas supply for safety.

Step 3: Pull the oven away from the wall.

Step 4: Get a Philips head screwdriver.

Step 5: Using the screwdriver, take out the screws which hold the oven’s rear access panels in place.

Step 6: Set the panels aside.

Step 7: Disconnect the wire plug connected to the igniter.

Step 8: Open the oven door.

Step 9: Flip the latches on the hinges forward.

2. Safety Valve

If your gas Jenn-Air oven broiler still won’t work after the igniter has been replaced, you should check the safety valve next. The safety valve sends gas to the igniter to light. If the igniter doesn’t receive the gas, it won’t light. To determine if the safety valve is the faulty component, you will need to test it. Read this article: Jenn-Air Oven Igniter [Issues & Proven Solutions] to test and replace the safety valve in your Jenn-Air oven.

3. Wires

If both the igniter and safety valve aren’t faulty but your gas Jenn-Air oven broiler won’t work, you should check the wires next. Inspect the wires connected to the safety valve and igniter. If you see that there are any burns or cuts on them, they should be replaced. Contact a technician to replace the wires.

4. Control Board

This is the final possible reason why your gas Jenn-Air oven broiler is not working. The control board sends voltage to the broil igniter in order for it to heat. If the broil igniter doesn’t receive voltage, it won’t work. If you have checked the components above but none of them is faulty, the control board is probably the reason why your Jenn-Air oven broiler won’t work. Read the “Jenn-Air Oven Control” article in the “Jenn-Air Oven Broiler Not Working” section above to replace the control board in your Jenn-Air oven.

Jenn-Air Oven Broiler Won’t Turn Off — How To Fix

If your Jenn-Air oven broiler won’t turn off, it may be because the broil element has shorted out. The same applies if your Jenn-Air oven is stuck on broil. To determine if your Jenn-Air oven broil element has shorted out, follow the step listed below…

Step 1: Turn the oven off.

Step 2: If the oven is still hot from previous use, leave it to cool down to room temperature.

Step 3: Once the oven has cooled down, unplug the power cord.

Step 4: Take out the screws which hold the oven’s upper rear access panel in place. Do this using a Philips head screwdriver.

Step 5: Set the panel aside.

Step 6: Disconnect the wires from the terminals of the broil element.

Step 7: Get a multimeter and turn the dial to the lowest ohms setting.

Step 8: Touch one multimeter probe to one of the terminals of the broil element.

Step 9: Look at the multimeter’s display then lift the probe off the terminal.

Step 10: Place the probe on the other display and look at the display.

Step 11: Now, lift the probe off. If you saw a reading when you placed the probe on either of the terminals, the broil element has shorted out and should be replaced. Read the “Jenn-Air Oven Broiler Not Working” section above to replace the broil element in your Jenn-Air oven.

However, if the element is not faulty, the thermostat may be the cause of the problem. The thermostat monitors the oven’s temperature during the broiling process. If the thermostat fails, it could send a false signal that the broil element hasn’t reached the set temperature even when it has. Also read the “Jenn-Air Oven Broiler Not Working” section above to replace the thermostat in your Jenn-Air oven. Note that not all ovens use thermostats.

If the thermostat and broil element aren’t faulty but your broiler won’t turn off, the control board is faulty. Read the “Jenn-Air Oven Control” article in the “Jenn-Air Oven Broiler Not Working” section to replace the control board in your Jenn-Air oven.
