If your Kenmore oven knob shaft is broken, the infinite switch should be replaced. Since the shaft is part of the infinite switch, you will need to replace it if it ever breaks. Below, we have listed the steps to follow in order to replace the infinite switch in your Kenmore oven…

Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall.

Step 2: Disconnect the power to the oven by unplugging the power cord or switching the circuit breaker off.

Step 3: Remove all the control knobs using some string.

Step 4: Use a flat head screwdriver to take out the four retainers at the top of the control panel assembly.

Step 5: Lift the panel up.

Step 6: Disconnect the wires from the control panel assembly.

Step 7: Set the control panel aside.

Step 8: Take out the screws which hold the control panel’s metal bracket to the oven.

Step 9: Take out the two screws which hold the infinite switch with the broken shaft to the metal bracket.

Step 10: Take a picture of where the wires go on the switch then disconnect them using a pair of pliers.

Step 11: Get a new infinite switch.

Step 12: Connect the wires to the switch making sure that each one goes to the right place.

Step 13: Screw the switch to the metal bracket.

Step 14: Reposition the bracket and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 15: Connect the wires to the control panel assembly and position it on the oven.

Step 16: Return the retainers which hold the control panel assembly in place.

Step 17: Push the knobs back onto the shafts.

Step 18: Plug the oven’s power cord in and push the oven back to the wall.
