Kenmore Oven Lock Stuck — How To Fix

If your Kenmore oven lock is stuck, the lock motor is faulty and should be replaced. Below, we have listed the steps you need to follow in order to replace your Kenmore oven lock motor…

Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall in order to access the rear.

Step 2: For safety, unplug the oven’s power cord from the outlet.

Step 3: If your oven uses gas, shut off the gas supply as well.

Step 4: Get a Philips head screwdriver.

Step 5: Using the Philips head screwdriver, take out the screws which hold the oven’s lower back panel or panels in place.

Step 6: Set the panel aside.

Step 7: You will see the lock motor on the left side of the oven’s rear. Take out the two Philips head screws which hold it in place.

Step 8: Lift the lock motor off the rod.

Step 9: Get a new Kenmore oven lock motor.

Step 10: Position the motor on the oven’s rear making sure to insert the rod into it.

Step 11: Secure the lock to the oven’s rear using the two Philips head screws.

Step 12: Disconnect the wires from the old door lock motor and connect them to the new one.

Step 13: Reposition the oven’s lower back panel or panels in place.

Step 14: Secure the panel or panels with the screws.

Step 15: Turn the oven’s gas supply on if you turned it off before.

Step 16: Plug the oven’s power cord back in and return it to its usual position.

If this method for replacing a Kenmore oven lock motor doesn’t work on your oven model, follow the steps listed below…

Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall and unplug the power cord from the outlet.

Step 2: Note where each stove control knob goes then pull them off.

Step 3: Use a flat head screwdriver to remove the control panel retainers. The retainers are over the control knob stems.

Step 4: Lift the control panel off.

Step 5: Disconnect the wire plugs from the control panel and set it aside.

Step 6: Now, take out the screws which hold the metal plate of the control panel assembly to the oven. Do this using a Philips head screwdriver.

Step 7: Also unscrew the green grounding wire from the metal plate.

Step 8: Disconnect the wire harnesses from the metal plate.

Step 9: Set the metal plate aside.

Step 10: Open the oven door.

Step 11: Take out the screws which hold the control panel plastic cover in place. There are screws at the top and bottom.

Step 12: Lift the cover off and set it aside.

Step 13: Remove the gasket from the front of the glass stove top.

Step 14: Take out the screws at the front and sides of the stove top which hold it in place.

Step 15: Note how each wire harness is positioned, then lift the stove top off.

Step 16: Set the stove top on a cloth lined surface.

Step 17: Take out the screws at the front of the oven which hold the door lock motor in place.

Step 18: Disconnect the wires from the lock motor and get a new one.

Step 19: Connect the wires to the new lock assembly and position it in the oven under the retaining screw.

Step 20: Secure the lock motor with the screws and place the stove top back on the oven.

Step 21: Return the screws which hold the stove top in place.

Step 22: Reposition the control panel plastic cover and secure it with the screws.

Step 23: Take the control panel metal plate back to the oven and reconnect the wire harnesses.

Step 24: Screw the metal plate back to the oven.

Step 25: Screw the grounding wire back to the metal plate.

Step 26: Reconnect the wires to the control panel assembly and position it on the oven.

Step 27: Return the retainers which secure the stove top.

Step 28: Push the control knobs back in.

Step 29: Shut the oven door.

Step 30: Plug the oven’s power cord back in and push it back to the wall.

Follow the steps above to replace your lock motor if your Kenmore oven is locked and showing F90.
