Kitchenaid Microwave Door Error — Quick Fix

If your Kitchenaid microwave is showing the Door Open/Close on the display, it means that the door has been closed for 5 or more minutes without the microwave being started. Open the door then close it. Afterwards, press the Start button.

Kitchenaid Microwave Runs With Door Open

If your microwave runs with the door open you will need to replace the door switch. To replace a Kitchenaid microwave door switch, do the following…

Step 1: Turn off the microwave and unplug it.

Step 2: Open the microwave and take out the glass tray and support.

Step 3: Take out the screws at the sides of the microwave which secure it to the cabinet.

Step 4: Also take out the washers.

Step 5: Lift the microwave out and place on a flat and sturdy surface.

Step 6: Take out the four screws at the top of the microwave.

Step 7: Slide out the top panel.

Step 8: Take out the screws at the right side of the microwave.

Step 9: Slide the panel out.

Step 10: Take out the door switch from the holder and press the button on it. If the button feels loose, you will need to replace it. However, if there is a strong click, return it to the holder.

Step 11: Get a new door switch and connect the wires to it.

Step 12: Return the side panel and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 13: Take out the screws on the left panel and slide it out.

Step 14: Do the same test with this door switch.

Step 15: Return the panel and the screws.

Step 16: Slide the top panel and secure with the four screws.

Step 17: Lift the microwave up and push it into the cabinet.

Step 18: Open the microwave door and return the glass tray and support.

Step 19: Insert the washers in the holes at the right and left side of the microwave.

Step 20: Screw the sides of the microwave to the cabinet.

Step 21: Close the microwave door and plug it back in.

Kitchenaid Microwave Broken Door Handle

To replace your Kitchenaid microwave door handle, do the following…

Step 1: Turn off the microwave and unplug it.

Step 2: Open the Kitchenaid microwave door.

Step 3: Using a drill bit to drill out the rivets which secure the arm to the door.

Step 4: Insert a paperclip into the hole to stop it from sliding back.

Step 5: Do the same with the other side

Step 6: Put a flathead screwdriver into each door hinge to hold them in place.

Step 7: Take out the two screws which secure the door to the hinges.

Step 8: Slide the door off and place on a sturdy table with the handle downwards.

Step 9: Using a flathead screwdriver, take out the two screw hole plugs.

Step 10: Take out the two screws using a screwdriver.

Step 11: Lift the door panel out.

Step 12: Now take out the screws which hold the door handle in place.

Step 13: Get a new door handle and secure it to the door with the two screws.

Step 14: Align the door panel and slide it up.

Step 15: Hold it in place with the screws and reinsert the plugs.

Step 16: Slide the door on the hinges.

Step 17: Tighten the two screws.

Step 18: Remove the flathead screwdrivers and the paperclips.

Step 19: Insert the bushing into the arm and hold it in place with the rivet.

Step 20: Plug the microwave back in.

How to Unlock a Kitchenaid Microwave

To unlock the control lock on a Kitchenaid microwave, simply press the “X” button with the word “Control” written under it. Hold the button down for three seconds to unlock. To lock it again, press the same button for three seconds.
