RCA Oven Igniter Not Working — Causes And Solutions
Below, we have listed the possible reasons why your RCA oven igniter is not working and how to fix them.
1. Igniter
If your RCA oven igniter is not working, it may be because it has failed. There are two different types of igniters used in RCA ovens. They are flat style igniters, or round style igniters. First, we will show you how to replace a flat style RCA oven igniter. Below, we have listed the steps you need to follow in order to replace your flat style RCA oven igniter…
Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall and unplug the cord from the outlet.
Step 2: Also shut off the gas supply for safety.
Step 3: Open the oven door slightly. The door should be at the broiling position.
Step 4: Grip the sides of the oven door and lift it off the hinges.
Step 5: Set the door on a cloth lined surface.
Step 6: Slide out the rack or racks in the oven.
Step 7: Use a flat blade screwdriver to take out the two screws which hold the oven’s bottom panel in place. If the screws are very difficult to remove, squirt some water on them to loosen.
Step 8: Lift the bottom panel out of the oven.
Step 9: Pull the oven’s bottom drawer forward.
Step 10: Using a quarter inch socket, take out the nut which holds the igniter shield in place.
Step 11: Set the shield aside.
Step 12: Using the same socket, take out the nut which holds the shield of the igniter wire plug in place.
Step 13: Pull the wire plug out and disconnect it.
Step 14: Take out the nuts which hold the igniter to the left side of the burner tube using the socket.
Step 15: Get a new RCA oven igniter.
Step 16: Position the igniter on the burner tube and hold it in place with the two nuts.
Step 17: Connect the wire plug to the igniter.
Step 18: Push the wire plug back and reposition the small shield.
Step 19: Hold the shield in place with the nut.
Step 20: Return the gas valve shield and hold it in place with the nut.
Step 21: Push the oven’s bottom drawer back in.
Step 22: Reposition the oven’s bottom panel.
Step 23: Hold the panel in place with the flat head screws.
Step 24: Return the rack or racks to the oven.
Step 25: Lift the door.
Step 26: Position the slots in the bottom of the door on the hinges and slide into place.
Step 27: Open the door fully then shut it.
Step 28: Plug the oven’s power cord back in.
Step 29: Turn the gas supply back on.
Step 30: Return the oven to its usual position.

Below, we have listed the steps you need to follow in order to replace your round style RCA oven igniter…
Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall.
Step 2: Go to the oven’s rear and unplug the power cord from the outlet for safety.
Step 3: Turn off the oven’s gas supply.
Step 4: Open the oven door to the broiling position.
Step 5: Grip the sides of the oven door and lift it off.
Step 6: Set the door aside on a cloth lined surface.
Step 7: Remove the racks in the oven.
Step 8: Take out the two screws which hold the oven’s bottom panel in place using a flat blade screwdriver.
Step 9: Lift the bottom panel out of the oven.
Step 10: Pull the oven’s bottom drawer forward and remove it.
Step 11: Look underneath the oven. Disconnect the red igniter wire from the safety valve.
Step 12: Pull out the other igniter wire from the hole in the rear and disconnect it.
Step 13: Using a quarter inch nut driver, take out the two screws which hold the burner tube in place. The screws are at the bottom of the oven as well.
Step 14: Go to the oven interior and take out the other quarter inch screw at the front of the burner tube which secures it.
Step 15: Lift the burner tube assembly out of the oven.
Step 16: Take out the two screws which hold the igniter to the burner tube using the quarter inch nut driver.
Step 17: Get a new RCA oven igniter.
Step 18: Cut the igniter wires about 3 inches away from the connectors. Do this using a pair of wire strippers.
Step 19: Strip about a quarter of an inch of the connector wires using the wire strippers.
Step 20: Match the connector wires to the new igniter wires.
Step 21: Hold the wires in place using ceramic wire nuts. Do not use plastic wire nuts.
Step 22: Position the igniter on the burner tube and secure with the screws.
Step 23: Position the burner tube assembly in the oven making sure that the igniter wires are properly placed.
Step 24: Return the screw at the front of the burner tube which secures it.
Step 25: Also return the other two screws underneath the oven which secure the burner tube as well.
Step 26: Reconnect the two igniter wires.
Step 27: Push the oven’s bottom drawer back into place.
Step 28: Reposition the oven’s bottom panel.
Step 29: Hold the panel in place with the screws.
Step 30: Slide the racks back into the oven.
Step 31: Lift the oven door and position the openings in the bottom on the hinges.
Step 32: Open the door fully then shut it.
Step 33: Plug the oven’s power cord back in.
Step 34: Turn on the gas supply and return the oven to its usual position.

2. Safety Valve
If your RCA oven igniter still won’t work after replacing it, the safety valve should be tested and maybe replaced. Below, we have listed the steps you need to follow in order to replace your RCA oven safety valve…
Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall and shut off the gas supply.
Step 2: Unplug the oven’s power cord from the outlet as well.
Step 3: Open the door of the oven.
Step 4: Slide out the racks in the oven and set them aside.
Step 5: Get a flat blade screwdriver.
Step 6: Using the flat blade screwdriver, take out the two screws which hold the oven’s bottom panel in place.
Step 7: Lift the bottom panel out of the oven and set it aside.
Step 8: Pull the oven’s bottom drawer forward.
Step 9: Take out the nut which holds the valve shield in place using a quarter inch nut driver.
Step 10: Set the valve shield aside and take out the screws which hold the burner tube assembly in place.
Step 11: Move the tube aside.
Step 12: Note where each wire goes on the valve then disconnect them using a pair of needle nose pliers.
Step 13: Use a wrench to disconnect the gas tube from the valve.
Step 14: Take out the screws which hold the valve to the oven.
Step 15: Test the valve using a multimeter. If the valve doesn’t have continuity, get a new one.
Step 16: Screw the new safety valve to the oven.
Step 17: Reconnect the gas tube to the safety valve. Do not tighten the tube too much as that could damage it.
Step 18: Reposition the burner tube assembly on the valve.
Step 19: Hold the burner tube assembly in place using the screws.
Step 20: Reconnect the wires to the terminals of the safety valve.
Step 21: Push the bottom drawer back into place.
Step 22: Reposition the oven’s bottom panel and hold it in place with the two screws.
Step 23: Slide the racks back into the oven.
Step 24: Shut the oven door.
Step 25: Turn on the oven’s gas supply.
Step 26: Plug the oven’s power cord back into the outlet.

3. Wires
If your RCA oven igniter won’t work but the safety valve and igniter aren’t faulty, you should check the wires next. Inspect the wires connected to your RCA oven igniter and safety valve. If the wires appear cut, burnt, or damaged in any way, contact a technician to replace them. If the wires aren’t damaged but your RCA oven igniter is not working, keep reading.
4. Control Board
This is the final possible reason why your RCA oven igniter is not working. If your have checked all the components above but they aren’t faulty, replace the control board. Below, we have listed the steps you need to follow in order to replace the control board in your RCA oven…
Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall and go to the rear.
Step 2: Unplug the oven’s power cord from the outlet.
Step 3: Using a quarter inch nut driver, take out the screws which hold the oven’s upper rear access panel in place.
Step 4: Set the access panel aside and take out the quarter inch screws which hold the control board in place.
Step 5: Take a picture of the control board to remember where each wire goes.
Step 6: Disconnect the wires from the control board.
Step 7: Get a new board.
Step 8: Get a heat gun and use it to melt the glue which helps the overlay stick to the old control board. Be careful not to burn the overlay as you do this.
Step 9: Carefully pry the overlay off the board using a putty knife.
Step 10: Stick the overlay to the new board.
Step 11: Take the control board to the oven and connect the wires to it. Make sure each wire goes to the right place.
Step 12: Secure the control board to the oven using the quarter inch screws.
Step 13: Reposition the oven’s top panel and hold it in place with the quarter inch screws.
Step 14: Plug the oven’s power cord back into the outlet.
Step 15: Return the oven to its usual position.

How To Test RCA Oven Igniter
Below, we have listed the steps you need to follow in order to test your RCA oven igniter…
Step 1: Get a multimeter.
Step 2: Uninstall the igniter from the oven. This will make the reading more accurate.
Step 3: Turn the dial of the multimeter to the lowest setting for ohms.
Step 4: If you are using an analog multimeter, calibrate it by touching the two probe ends while adjusting the needle on the display to 0.
Step 5: Touch the two multimeter probes to the ends of the igniter.
Step 6: Look at the reading on the multimeter’s display. If the multimeter doesn’t show a reading or the needle doesn’t move, the igniter is faulty and should be replaced. How To Replace RCA Stove Top Igniter
Below, we have listed the steps you need to follow in order to replace the igniter of your RCA stove top…
Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall and shut off the gas supply.
Step 2: Unplug the oven’s power cord from the outlet to avoid the risk of electrocution.
Step 3: Remove the burner grate and set it aside.
Step 4: Lift off the burner assembly with the igniter you want to replace.
Step 5: Set the burner assembly aside.
Step 6: Get a putty knife.
Step 7: Gently pry the igniter off the stove top using the putt knife.
Step 8: Get a pair of needle nose pliers and use it to disconnect the wire connected to the igniter. Make sure the wire doesn’t fall through the hole in the stove top after you disconnect it.
Step 9: Get a new igniter for your RCA stove top.
Step 10: Take the igniter to the oven and connect the wire to the terminal.
