Whirlpool Oven Element Not Working — How To Fix

1. Element
If your Whirlpool oven element is not working, it may have shorted out. Below, we have listed the steps you need to follow in order to replace your Whirlpool oven element…
Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall.
Step 2: Unplug the oven’s power cord from the outlet.
Step 3: Using a Philips head screwdriver, take out the screws which hold the oven’s lower back panel in place.
Step 4: Set the panel aside.
Step 5: Disconnect the wires from the terminals of the bake element.
Step 6: Open the door of the oven.
Step 7: Slide out the racks in the oven and set them aside.
Step 8: Using the Philips head screwdriver, take out the two screws which hold the oven’s bottom panel in place.
Step 9: Lift the oven’s bottom panel out and set it aside.
Step 10: Take out the screw on the oven’s lower back wall which holds the bake element in place.
Step 11: Take out the screws which hold the mounting brackets of the bake element.
Step 12: Remove the bake element from the oven.
Step 13: Get a new Whirlpool oven element.
Step 14: Position the element in the oven.
Step 15: Secure the element’s brackets to the oven.
Step 16: Return the Philips head screw on the oven’s back wall which holds the element in place.
Step 17: Reposition the oven’s bottom panel.
Step 18: Hold the oven’s bottom panel in place with the two Philips head screws.
Step 19: Slide the racks back into the oven.
Step 20: Shut the door of the oven.
Step 21: Go to the oven’s rear.
Step 22: Connect the wires to the terminals of the bake element.
Step 23: Reposition the oven’s lower back panel.
Step 24: Hold the oven’s back panel in place with the Philips head screws.
Step 25: Plug the oven’s power cord into the outlet.
Step 26: Return the oven to its usual position.

2. Loose Or Burnt Wire
If the wires going to the bake element are loose or damaged, it could cause your Whirlpool oven element to stop working. Take off the oven’s lower back panel by removing the Philips head screws which hold it in place. Inspect the wires connected to the terminals of the bake element. Below, we have listed the steps you need to follow in order to test your Whirlpool oven element…
Step 1: Get a multimeter.
Step 2: If you are using an analog multimeter, turn the dial to the lowest ohms setting. Touch the two multimeter probes together while adjusting the needle on the display to read 0. If you use a digital multimeter, just turn the dial to the lowest ohms setting.
Step 3: Touch the multimeter probes to the terminals of your Whirlpool oven element and look at the display. If the multimeter shows a reading anywhere from 30 to 100 ohms, the element is still good. If the multimeter display doesn’t change at all, your Whirlpool oven element is faulty.

1. Loose Or Burnt Wire
If one or both of the wires connected to the broil element is loose or damaged, it won’t work. Inspect the wires connected to the broil element. You will need to remove the oven’s upper back panel first to access the wires. If the wires are loose, reconnect them. If the wires leading to broil element appear damaged, call a technician to fix them.
2. Broil Element
If the wires connected to the broil element aren’t loose or damaged, you should try replacing the element. Follow these steps to replace the broil element of your Whirlpool oven…
Step 1: Unplug the oven’s power cord for safety.
Step 2: Open the oven door.
Step 3: Slide out the racks in the oven and set them aside.
Step 4: Take out the screw on the oven’s upper back wall using a Philips head screwdriver.
Step 5: Take out the other screws at the top of the oven wall to release the broil element.
Step 6: Pull the broil element forward.
Step 7: Disconnect the wires from the terminals of the broil element. Make sure the wires don’t fall through the hole in the oven’s back wall.
Step 8: Get a new broil Whirlpool oven element.
Step 9: Connect the wires to the terminals of the new broil element.
Step 10: Push the element in and return the screws at the top wall which hold it in place.

Below, we have listed the possible reasons your Whirlpool stove top element won’t work and what to do about them.
1. Radiant Element
If your Whirlpool stove top element won’t work, you should replace it. Below, we have listed the steps you need to follow in order to replace your Whirlpool stove top element…
Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall.
Step 2: Disconnect the power to the oven. You can do this by unplugging the power cord from the outlet.
Step 3: Open the door of the oven.
Step 4: Take out the Philips head screws underneath the stove top which hold it in place.
Step 5: Pull the stove top towards yourself a bit.
Step 6: Disconnect the two wire plugs at the back of the stove top.
Step 7: Also unscrew the grounding wire from the stove top’s rear.
Step 8: Lift the stove top off the oven.
Step 9: Set the stove top on a cloth lined surface with the top faced downwards.
Step 10: Note where each wire goes on the faulty element by taking a picture.
Step 11: Disconnect the wires from the faulty element using a pair of needle nose pliers.
Step 12: Take out the screws which hold the mounting bracket of the faulty element.
Step 13: Set the bracket aside.
Step 14: Lift the element off and get a new one.
Step 15: Note where the mounting clips go on the old element.
Step 16: Unscrew the mounting clips from the old element and screw them onto the new one. Make sure to screw them onto the right places.
Step 17: Position the element of the bracket by inserting the clips into the slots.
Step 18: Secure the bracket to the stove top using the screws.
Step 19: Reconnect the wires to the terminals of the element. Make sure that each wire goes to the right place.
Step 20: Lift the stove top and take it back to the oven.
Step 21: Reconnect the two wire plugs to the stove top.
Step 22: Also screw the grounding wire back to the stove top.
Step 23: Push the stove top back into place.
Step 24: Return the screws which hold the stove top in place.
Step 25: Shut the oven door.
Step 26: Plug the oven’s power cord back in.
Step 27: Push the oven back to the wall.

Step 9: Connect the wires to the element switch making sure that each one goes to the right place.
Step 10: Position the switch in the oven and hold it in place with the two screws.

Step 13: Push the control knob back onto the shaft.
Step 14: Plug the oven’s power cord back into the outlet.

5. Receptacle
If your Whirlpool stove top element coil still doesn’t work after replacing it, the receptacle is probably faulty. Below, we have listed the steps you need to follow in order to replace the receptacle of your Whirlpool stove top element coil…
Step 1: Pull the oven away from the wall and unplug the power cord to avoid the risk of electrocution.
Step 2: Lift up the element connected to the receptacle you want to replace.
Step 3: Pull the element terminals away from the receptacle.
Step 4: Lift off the drip pan as well and set it aside.
Step 5: Using a Philips head screwdriver, take out the screw which holds the receptacle to the stove top.
Step 6: Lift the stove top to gain access to the receptacle.
Step 7: Using a pair of pliers, cut the wires connected to the receptacle terminal block. You should cut four inches away from the block.
Step 8: Strip half an inch of the stove top wires that were connected to the receptacle terminal block.
Step 9: Get a new receptacle kit.
Step 10: Take out the two wires from the kit and connect them to the two stripped wires of the stove top.
Step 11: Secure the wires with some ceramic wire nuts. Do not use plastic wire nuts.
Step 12: Slide the heat shrink tubes that come with the kit over the ceramic wire nuts.
Step 13: Use a heat gun to shrink the tubes over the wire nuts.
Step 14: Get the terminal block from the kit and connect the wires to it.
Step 15: Position the housing from the kit on the terminals block and snap it into place.
Step 16: Position the terminal block on the stove top and secure it using the Philips head screw.
Step 17: Lower the stove top.
Step 18: Return the drip pan to the stove top.
Step 19: Insert the terminals of the element coil into the receptacle.
Step 20: Lower the element coil into the drip pan.
Step 21: Plug the oven’s power cord back in.
Step 22: Push the oven back to the wall.
