Hotpoint Oven Door Catch Broken — How To Fix

If your Hotpoint oven door catch is broken, it will need to be replaced. Below are the steps you need to follow in order to replace a Hotpoint oven door catch…

Step 1: Turn off the oven and unplug the power cord from the outlet to avoid the risk of electrocution.

Step 2: Open the oven door.

Step 3: Flip the catches on the door hinges towards yourself using a flat blade screwdriver.

Step 4: Close the door till it stops.

Step 5: Grip the sides of the door and lift it off.

Step 6: Pull out the control knobs on the oven’s front panel. Take a picture before doing this to remember where each knob goes.

Step 7: Take out the screws under the oven’s front panel. There should be two screws.

Step 8: Slide the front panel to the left then pull it out carefully.

Step 9: Note where each wire is connected to on the front panel then disconnect them.

Step 10: Set the oven’s front panel aside.

Step 11: At the front of the oven, there will be screws on the right side. Take out the screws from the top to the bottom of the oven’s right side.

Step 12: Go to the oven’s rear and take out the screws which hold the back panel in place.

Step 13: Lift the back panel off and set it aside.

Step 14: Carefully pull off the panel on the right side of the oven and set it aside.

Step 15: Take out the two screws at the front of the oven which hold the door roller catch.

Step 16: Remove the roller catch.

Step 17: Get a new one and position it on the oven.

Step 18: Return the screws at the front right of the oven which hold the catch in place.

Step 19: Reposition the side panel and push it into place.

Step 20: Return the oven’s rear panel and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 21: Return the screws on the front right of the oven you took out earlier.

Step 22: Reconnect the wires to the oven’s front panel.

Step 23: Secure the front panel to the oven using the two screws.

Step 24: Push the oven control knobs back in making sure each one goes to the right place.

Step 25: Reposition the door on the oven by inserting the hinges into the slots.

Step 26: Lower the door and flip back the catches.

Step 27: Close the oven door.

Step 28: Plug the oven’s power cord back into the outlet.

If you’ve hit your Hotpoint oven door glass before, a crack might have developed. As the oven heats up and cools down, the crack expands till it finally shatters. If tempered glass was used in making your Hotpoint oven door, it will explode instead of shattering. Follow the steps below to replace the inner door glass of your Hotpoint oven…

Step 1: Unplug the oven and open the door.

Step 2: Flip the hinge locks forward with a flat head screwdriver.

Step 3: Close the door till it can’t go any further.

Step 4: Lift the door off and set it face down on a cloth lined sturdy surface.

Step 5: Remove the two screws at the top of the oven door.

Step 6: Remove the other screws at the bottom. There should be three screws.

Step 7: Lift off the inner door assembly.

Step 9: Remove the door hinges and set aside.

Step 10: Flip the door over and take out the screws which hold the metal panel of the glass insulation. There will be about three screws.

Step 11: Set the panel aside.

Step 12: Remove the remains of the inner door glass making sure to clean off all the pieces.

Step 13: Get a new inner door glass and position it on the door.

Step 14: Return the metal panel which covers the glass insulation.

Step 15: Flip the oven door over and reposition the door hinges.

Step 16: Hold the door hinges in place with the screws.

Step 17: Position the inner oven door on the outer one and hold it in place with the screws at the top and bottom.

Step 18: Reinsert the hinges on the door into the slots on the oven.

Step 19: Lower the door and flip the hinge locks back.

Step 20: Close the door and plug the oven back in.

Step 3: Using the screwdriver, flip the clips on the door hinges towards yourself.

Step 4: Push the door forward till it can’t go any further.

Step 5: Lift the door up, tilt it in, and remove it.

Step 6: Set the door front side down on a towel lined surface.

Step 7: Take out the screws which hold the inner door assembly to the outer door assembly. There should be two screws at the top and three at the bottom.

Step 8: Lift the inner door assembly and set it aside.

Step 9: Take out the four screws which secure the outer door assembly’s bottom trim. There will be two screws on each side.

Step 10: Remove the trim.

Step 11: Remove the remains of the glass from the top trim.

Step 12: Get a new outer door assembly.

Step 13: Slide the new door assembly into the door trim.

Step 14: Return the door trim and the four screws which hold it in place.

Step 15: Position the inner door assembly on the outer one and hold it in place at the top and bottom with the screws.

Step 16: Reposition the door hinges into the slots in the oven.

Step 17: Lower the door and flip back the catches.

Step 18: Close the door and plug the oven in.

If your Hotpoint oven door won’t open, the door latch assembly should be replaced. Below are the steps you need to follow in order to replace your Hotpoint oven door latch assembly…

Step 1: Unplug the oven or switch the circuit breaker off to avoid the risk of electrocution.

Step 2: Insert the hook of a clothe hanger between the cooktop and oven.

Step 3: Use the hook to pull the door latch back in order to release the door.

Step 4: Open the oven door.

Step 5: Take out the screws underneath the oven’s cooktop. There should be two screws.

Step 6: Lift the cooktop.

Step 7: Get someone to help you hold the cooktop or prop it with a piece of wood.

Step 8: Take out the screws which hold the metal panel covering the door latch assembly.

Step 9: Lift the panel off.

Step 10: Remove the two screws at the front of the oven which secure the door latch assembly.
