How to Change A Whirlpool Microwave Light

To change a Whirlpool microwave light, follow the steps listed below…

Step 1: Turn of and unplug the microwave.

Step 2: Take out the screws at the top of the front grille.

Step 3: Remove the front grille.

Step 4: Inside the opening of the microwave, you will see a metal cover. Take it out.

Step 5: Unscrew the light bulb and get a new one.

Step 6: Screw the new one into place.

Step 7: Return the metal cover.

Step 8: Reinstall the front grille and secure it with the screws.

To change the exterior Whirlpool microwave light bulb, do the following…

Step 1: Turn off and unplug the microwave.

Step 2: Take out the two screws underneath the microwave which hold the light bulb cover in place.

Step 3: Unscrew the bulb.

Step 4: Get a new bulb and screw it into place.            

Step 5: Secure the light bulb cover with the two screws.

Step 6: Plug the microwave back.

Step 1: Unplug the microwave.

Step 2: Take out the screws at the top of the microwave front vent.

Step 3: Remove the vent.

Step 4: Open the microwave door.

Step 5: Take out the screw at the top of the control panel which secures it to the microwave.

Step 6: Lift the control panel up then lower it down.

Step 7: Take out the screw which secures the door switch holder to the frame.

Step 8: Release the latch to fully detach the door switch holder.

Step 9: Using a pair of needle nose pliers, remove the interlock spring.

Step 10: Detach the switch from the holder.

Step 11: Press the small the button on the switch. If there is a strong click, the door switch is still good. If not, get a new door switch.

Step 12: Do this same test with the other door switches.

Step 13: Disconnect the wires from the faulty door witch.

Step 14: Reconnect the wires to the new door switch and place it back in the holder.

Step 15: Reposition the interlock spring.

Step 16: Screw the door switch holder back to the frame.

Step 17: Push the control panel in and hold it in place with the screw.

Step 18: Return the front vent and the screws above it.

Step 19: Plug the microwave back in.

Note: If your Whirlpool microwave light doesn’t turn off, it may also be because of a faulty door switch.

Whirlpool Microwave Display Light Not Working

If your Whirlpool microwave light display is not working, you may need to replace the control board or control panel. To replace the control board in a Whirlpool microwave, do the following…

Step 1: Unplug the microwave.

Step 2: Take out the screws securing the front vent.

Step 3: Lift the front vent out.

Step 4: Take out the screw holding the control panel in place.

Step 5: Lift the control panel up then out.

Step 6: Take a picture of where each wire goes on the control board then disconnect them.

Step 7: Take out the screw securing the grounding wire.

Step 8: Disconnect the ribbon connector.

Step 9: Take out the screws which secure the control board to the panel.

Step 10: Lift the control board out and get a new one.

Step 11: Remove the protective covering from the display of the control board.

Step 12: Position the control board on the control panel and hold it in place with the screws.

Step 13: Reconnect the ribbon connector.

Step 14: Screw the grounding wire back and reconnect all the wires to the appropriate places on the control board.

Step 15: Push the control panel back in and hold it in place with the screw.

Step 16: Return the front vent and the screws above it.

Note: Before replacing the control board, it would be best to get a technician to find out whether that is where the problem is from. Since the control board is a bit expensive, it would be a waste to replace it and still not fix the problem.

Step 1: Unplug the microwave.

Step 2: Take out the screws securing the front grille.

Step 3: Lift the front grille out.

Step 4: Remove the screw at the top of the control panel.

Step 5: Lift the control panel up then lower it down.

Step 6: Note where each wire goes on the control board then disconnect them. To make it easier, you can take a picture.

Step 7: Take out the screw securing the grounding wire to the control panel.

Step 8: Disconnect the ribbon connector.

Step 9: Take out the screws that secure the control board to the control panel.

Step 10: Get a new control panel and screw the control board to it.

Step 11: Reconnect the ribbon connector.

Step 12: Secure the grounding wire to the control panel.

Step 13: Reconnect all the wires to the control panel.

Step 14: Push the control panel back in and hold in place with the screw.

Step 15: Return the front grille and secure with the screws.
